Dandemutande Investments (Private) Limited was established in 1997 with its origins as a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider growing to service the corporate Internet and wholesale Internet market in Zimbabwe through its Utande brand as a Microsoft preferred ISP. The privately-owned company is backed by indigenous and local shareholders and through its subsidiary, Telerix Communications (Private) Limited, Masawara Investment Limited holds an effective 50% majority shareholding in Dandemutande. Dandemutande holds an Internet Access Provider ("IAP") Class A telecommunications licence that it was awarded by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe ("POTRAZ") in 2009. The license allows the company to construct, operate, develop, extend, and maintain a public data and Internet access network, and to offer Voice over Internet Protocol ("VoIP") services.
Following the investment by Masawara in January 2011, the company began development of fixed and nomadic broadband Internet services with a view to ultimately launch fully mobile broadband services via its fibre and WiMAX network. The state of the art infrastructure was procured from leading global players such as CISCO Systems Inc. and Alvarion Limited. Simultaneously, Dandemutande connected to the SEACOM undersea cable, and entered a 20 year capacity purchase agreement with SEACOM to provide affordable wholesale bandwidth solutions to the Zimbabwean market.
In conjunction with the development of the mobile WiMAX Network, Dandemutande built a state of the art Data Centre with a next generation network core using the best service provider technology from CISCO and including systems from EMC and APC. The new Data Centre is built to such high specification that it has become Zimbabwe's first "cloud" based computing centre.
