Chief Executive Officer
Nhena Nyagura served as the Head of Business of iWayAfrica Zimbabwe and the Acting Regional Manager for Africa Online two leading Internet service providers in Zimbabwe in these roles Nhena was responsible for strategy formulation and execution and saw through the transformation of iWayAfrica Zimbabwe from a consumer centric operator into one of Zimbabwe’s largest and most trusted corporate services provider. Prior to assuming leadership of iWayAfrica Zimbabwe in January 2010, he served as the Head of Internet Services and the Chief Operating Officer of Africom, a licensed data network operator in Zimbabwe during the period 2006 to 2009. During his tenure Nhena was instrumental in Africom’s realisation of a market leading Internet Business Unit, National WIMAX network infrastructure and industry recognised Network Operations Service Centre. From 2004 through 2006 Mr Nyagura was a founding member and Chief Technical Officer of Academic One a live online tutoring service in the US. Prior to that Mr. Nyagura was employed by Level 3 Communications one of the world’s largest global data and infrastructure companies from 1998 through 2004 in numerous capacities ranging from Sr. Network Engineer, Technical Account Manager and eventually as the Manager of Sales Engineering in the US Mid-Atlantic region. In this final role Nhena inspired a team of solution architects that were responsible for developing complex infrastructure solutions for customers such as Akamai, Broadcast.com, GE, Verizon, AOL, Cable and Wireless, Intelsat and Hughes Network Systems. One of his high points was the design and implementation of Verizon’s national 2.5 Gbps national wavelength network in the US.
Nhena additionally served as the Chair of a Technical Advisory Group tasked with operational oversight of Level 3’s global 3.6 million square foot data centre portfolio. Mr. Nyagura was named to Level 3’s Circle of Excellence in 1999 and Presidents Club in 2004. Nhena spent a brief period with XCOM Technologies prior to its acquisition by Level 3 communications as a Sr. Network Engineer responsible for softswitch enabled wholesale dial product development. Nhena spent 1994 through 1998 at RCN Communications in various operational capacities including Manager of Network Access. Nhena served as an independent non-executive director of the Renaissance Merchant Bank and Renaissance Securities additionally serving on the Group Finance and Audit Committee as well as the IT Steering Committee. Mr. Nyagura holds a BSc in Computer Information Systems, from Strayer University and is currently pursuing an MBA with the University of Gloucestershire.
